MELLOTT Wood PRESERVING - WHERE everyone plays a significant role.

WE're Big enough to make a difference but small enough to CARE.

Mellott Wood Preserving Co., Inc.

Makers of Railroad Ties and Timbers since 1977

Mellott Wood Preserving Co, Inc. is a small, family-owned business that has been dedicated to producing the highest quality crossties, switch timbers, and bridge timbers since 1977.  While Mellott Wood uses the most innovative techniques to ensure safe and durable products, it has not lost its more traditional values.  In today's fast-paced world, Mellott Wood still provides the personal attention to its clients as it did in 1977.

Having been a part of the industry for many generations, Mellott Wood is well-positioned to provide the best products available.  Following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, Cecil Mellott began his career in the railroad industry. In 1955,  he became a railroad tie buyer for one of the major railroad suppliers at the time.

In 1967, Cecil went into business for himself brokering untreated railroad ties directly to the Pennsylvania Railroad and selling sawmill equipment. With the reorganization of New York and Pennsylvania Railroads into the Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail), railroad tie buying practices changed dramatically. Conrail became interested in buying treated railroad ties only and approached Cecil to establish a creosote treatment facility.

Rising to the challenge, in 1977 Cecil built his new, state of the art facility in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Needmore, PA. Soon after breaking ground, Cecil's son, Doug, joined him in this venture. Working side by side, Cecil and Doug founded Mellott Wood Preserving Co, Inc., and Mellott Wood has remained a small, family-owned business.

Mellott Wood became a Conrail Certified Quality Supplier and has remained as innovative in the industry as it was when it was founded in 1977.

Most recently, Mellott Wood assisted the Nisus Corporation in researching the use of its product, Copper Naphthenate (QNAP 8), in conjunction with a Borate pretreatment, as a viable alternate to the traditional creosote treatment.  Please Read Morefor more information on this important research.

Mellott Wood provides the perfect balance of personal attention that a small business affords to its clients and forward-thinking innovation that makes it a major player in the railroad tie industry.
